Which postpartum food supplement should you choose?
After childbirth, the body replenishes its reserves over several months, sometimes while breastfeeding and coping with short nights. The right supplement is the one that meets your needs right now, and there are rarely more than two or three at a time:
- Fatigue and recovery : a multivitamin designed for after childbirth. Post Essentials combines 17 vitamins and minerals in 2 capsules a day, including vitamin C, which contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. It’s our food supplement for fatigue go-to for new mums.
- Iron : blood loss during childbirth depletes iron stores. Iron Mama provides iron bisglycinate, a well-tolerated form that contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells. A blood test before starting an iron supplement remains the rule.
- Mood and emotional balance : Happy Postpartum combines saffron, which contributes to emotional balance, ginger for physical well-being and 100% of your vitamin C needs. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function: our DHA supplement Omega Mama provides 250 mg per capsule, and a choline-based supplement complements your nutrient intake.
- Sleep and frayed nerves : magnesium contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to the normal functioning of the nervous system. Mama-gnésium is a magnesium supplement 100% bisglycinate, and Mama Dreams a sleep supplement with glycine, lemon balm and chamomile.
- Hair : hair loss three to four months after birth is temporary, but you can support regrowth. See our postpartum hair care routine.
- Skin, joints, tissues : collagen is the body’s structural protein. Our collagen food supplement in powder form and our bone broths provide it daily, alongside vitamin C, which contributes to normal collagen formation.
And if you were to choose just one? Post Essentials : it covers the main needs after childbirth, is taken as 2 capsules and is compatible with breastfeeding.

Postpartum supplement course: when should you start and for how long?
You can start a postpartum supplement course as soon as you get home, once your eating routine settles, and continues for one to three months depending on the product. Take the capsules with a meal, usually in one or two doses a day; mix the collagen powders into a hot or cold drink, and add the broths to a meal or drink them like a herbal tea. If you’re breastfeeding, the course can continue throughout breastfeeding: our compatible formulas state this on their product pages. Once breastfeeding has ended, a women’s multivitamin can take over: we explain which supplements to keep taking after breastfeeding in our guide.
Postpartum and breastfeeding food supplement
Breastfeeding increases the need for energy, iodine, DHA and vitamin D, and a breastfed baby receives what their mother consumes. Products marked as compatible with breastfeeding have been formulated for this period : tailored dosages, with active ingredients chosen accordingly. For targeted lactation support, our breastfeeding food supplements and our breastfeeding snack Cho-chocolat, with 200 mg of DHA per square, take things from here.
Postpartum hair loss: which supplement should you choose?
Two to four months after birth, many mums lose handfuls of hair. This is postpartum telogen effluvium: hair retained during pregnancy sheds at the same time, then grows back. A food supplement for hair loss supports this regrowth. Mama Hair, our postpartum hair care routine, combines patented Cynatine® HNS keratin, biotin and apple tree extract; Hair Essentials, our hair growth capsule, uses the same keratin in a formula compatible with pregnancy and breastfeeding. Zinc and biotin contribute to the maintenance of normal hair. Our full range of keratin-based food supplement is on its dedicated page, and you’ll find our advice in the article postpartum hair loss.

Really effective
Really effective. My baby hairs grew back so well after just 2 months of taking it. I recommend it
Collagen after childbirth
Collagen accounts for around a quarter of the body’s proteins: in the skin, tendons, joints and tissues. After childbirth, you can get it from bone broth and the skin and cartilage of meat and fish, as well as from our marine collagen powders (unflavoured Collagène Mama, peach-flavoured Peach Mama, hot-chocolate-style Mamaload, coffee-flavoured Déca Mama). Our Mama Poule and Mama Beef broths provide 6 g and 15 g of collagen per jar respectively. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of the skin, cartilage and bones: our formulas combine it with other ingredients, and our vitamin C supplement can be taken alongside it.
Eating to recover: what matters after childbirth
A supplement complements your food; it never replaces it. In the first few weeks, choose warm, comforting foods: soups, slow-cooked meals and the bone broth, rich in collagen and electrolytes. Add protein to every meal, wholegrains for energy, green vegetables and nuts and seeds, oily fish for omega-3, and plenty of water, especially if you’re breastfeeding or taking iron. The zinc supplement and vitamin C support healing after a caesarean section or a tear. Our guide postpartum nutrition explains what the research says, nutrient by nutrient.
