Collagen for pregnancy and postpartum: our marine collagen supplements

It all depends on the area of focus:

• Type I: very abundant in the skin. It is often found in marine collagen products.
• Type II: more commonly associated with cartilage in discussions about joints.
• Type III: often mentioned alongside type I in certain tissues.

In supplements, collagen is often offered as peptides (hydrolysed collagen). This form is mainly chosen because it is easy to incorporate into a daily routine. Our marine collagen is primarily type I, has a molecular weight of approximately 2,000 daltons, comes from sustainably caught fish and is Friend of the Sea® certified.

There is no single universal "best". The right product is the one that matches your criteria: powder or capsules, taste, ease of use, tolerance, budget.

What genuinely helps when comparing: the source (marine, bovine, etc.), the form (peptides/hydrolysed), the clarity of the composition (ingredients, allergens), the possible presence of vitamin C (often combined), and the precautions.

Rankings such as "the number 1 collagen in the world" are mostly marketing. The most reliable indicator remains transparency and alignment with your needs.

Collagen is not recommended for children.

Medical advice is preferable if you have an allergy (for example to fish if using marine collagen), a medical condition, an ongoing treatment, or if you are combining several supplements.

It's also worth checking if you're pregnant or breastfeeding and unsure, even when the formula seems "simple".

We rarely talk about a "deficiency" in the medical sense, but certain signals can make it worth looking into: less supple skin, joint discomfort, brittle nails, finer hair.

These signs can have many causes (tiredness, hormones, deficiencies, stress, postpartum). If you are concerned, a healthcare professional can help you get to the bottom of it — especially if the change is rapid or marked.

Collagen is found mainly in animal sources, particularly preparations rich in connective tissues (such as certain broths). Fruits do not contain collagen.

However, they can provide nutrients that are useful in a skin care routine, such as vitamin C, which is often combined with collagen in formulas.

The best time is the one you can stick to. Many people take it in the morning, as a snack, or in a drink, because it's easier to fit in.
In terms of frequency, consistency tends to matter more than timing. And as for age, there's no single rule: it all depends on your goals (skin, hair, joints), your lifestyle, and your situation (pregnancy, post-partum, breastfeeding).

Collagen does not "suppress" wrinkles. Some people look for support for skin elasticity and suppleness through a regular routine, without expecting a dramatic effect.

If you are taking it in a perimenopause context, it is compatible with menopause vitamins.

On the downside, the most common limitations relate to tolerance (sometimes digestive), taste, consistency, or a choice that is not suited to your situation (allergy, medication, combining supplements).

The right reflex: read the product information sheet and seek professional advice if in doubt.
