Pregnancy, conception, postpartum and breastfeeding are the most nutritionally and micronutritionally demanding periods in a woman's life. Nutritional needs increase during the maternity period (1).

A prenatal food supplement can help to cover these needs, particularly for vitamin B9*, in addition to a varied and balanced diet.

During pregnancy
Bump essentials provides essential nutrients, such as vitamin B9 (in a patented, methylated form) at the recommended dose (400 µg), vitamin D, iodine, selenium, B vitamins, etc.

The benefits of these nutrients include:
- Methylated folate (5-MTHF) contributes to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy.
- Zinc, vitamins D, B12 and B9 play a role in the process of cell division.
- Zinc contributes to normal DNA synthesis.
- Choline and vitamins B6, B9 and B12 contribute to normal homocysteine metabolism.
- Vitamins B6 and B12 contribute to the normal formation of red blood cells, vitamin B9 contributes to normal blood formation, and vitamin B2 contributes to the maintenance of normal red blood cells.
- Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium.
- Iodine and selenium contribute to normal thyroid function.
- Vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6, B9 and B12 contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

Trying to conceive (TTC), preconception, trying for a baby
Supplementation from the conception period may be recommended, particularly for vitamin B9. Indeed, a low methylated folate (5-MTHF) status in the mother increases the risk of neural tube defects in the developing foetus. The beneficial effect is obtained by the daily consumption of 400 µg of folic acid, at least one month before conception and up to three months after conception*.
Furthermore, vitamin D, vitamins B12 and B9, and zinc play a role in the process of cell division.
Zinc contributes to normal fertility and reproduction.

Take 2 capsules per day with a glass of water. Ideally taken with breakfast or lunch.

B vitamins can give the capsules a strong smell. You can open the jar and leave it to air to let the smell dissipate.

Incorporate taking Bump essentials into your daily routine. If you forget one day, don't worry, but try to make a habit of taking it every day.

We recommend starting the course as soon as you're trying to conceive, and continuing throughout pregnancy*. After giving birth, you can take our postpartum vitamins Post essentials.

Don't forget the DHA:
You can take it with 1 capsule of our omega 3 pregnancy Oméga Mama, which provides DHA and EPA. DHA is an omega 3 fatty acid that contributes to the healthy development of the brain and vision of the foetus. It is derived from a vegan algae oil and does not cause fishy aftertaste.

If you need iron:
Bump essentials does not contain iron, as not all (future) mamas necessarily need it.
If you do need it, our iron supplement for pregnant women Iron Mama covers 100% of the recommended daily intake in just 1 capsule.

Bump essentials can also be taken with the choline food supplement and the magnesium food supplement

*The beneficial effect of vitamin B9 supplementation is obtained by the daily consumption of 400 μg of folic acid, at least one month before conception and up to three months after conception

What does Bump essentials contain?

At Jolly Mama, every ingredient is chosen with care – and above all explained with complete transparency, so you know exactly what you are giving your body.

During pregnancy, the need for methylated folate (5-mthf) increases significantly, particularly in the first few weeks, a key period for neural tube development*. Bump essentials provides 400 µg in Quatrefolic® form, the active and patented form of 5-MTHF, directly absorbable by the body (1) to support the growth of maternal tissues.
*The beneficial effect is obtained by the daily consumption of 400 μg of folic acid, at least one month before conception and up to three months after conception.

(1) Conversion of calcium-l-methylfolate and (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolic acid glucosamine salt into dietary folate equivalents. 2022.

Choline is an essential nutrient, yet it is still often insufficiently consumed during pregnancy. Baby Bump essentials provides 100 mg in the form of Vitacholine®, a patented high-quality choline bitartrate that is very well absorbed (2), to complement dietary intake and support the increased needs of this key period.

(2) Differential metabolism of choline supplements in adult volunteers, 2021.

Pregnancy increases iodine requirements by more than 50%; iodine contributes to the production of thyroid hormones and to normal thyroid function. The thyroid is involved in many bodily functions, including growth (3). The ELFE study showed that more than 75% of pregnant women had an insufficient iodine intake (4). We have used an inorganic form of iodine, potassium iodide, which is absorbed by the body at a rate of over 90% (5).

Your questions, our answers.

Nowadays, even a good diet may not be enough to meet the nutritional needs of men and women, especially during the perinatal period when requirements for certain nutrients more than double (vitamin B9). Soil depletion, processed foods, stressful lifestyles, pollution and other factors mean we are consuming fewer nutrients than before*. ANSES** shows that even an optimised diet is not sufficient to meet the nutritional needs of pregnancy, particularly for vitamin for pregnant women B9 and vitamin D.

*An Alarming Decline in the Nutritional Quality of Foods: The Biggest Challenge for Future Generations' Health. 2024.
**Revised opinion of ANSES on the update of the PNNS dietary guidelines – Pregnant and breastfeeding women, ANSES 2019.

A prenatal supplement is a boost, a safeguard from the moment you start trying to conceive. Your nutritional intake even before pregnancy will have an impact on your fertility (zinc contributes to normal fertility), your health*, and that of your baby**. Needs increase very quickly from the very start of pregnancy, so it is important to have optimal intake even before day one.

*Vitamins B6 and B12 contribute to the normal formation of red blood cells, vitamin B9 contributes to normal blood formation, and vitamin B2 contributes to the maintenance of normal red blood cells.

Revised opinion of Anses on the update of dietary guidelines from the PNNS – Pregnant and breastfeeding women, ANSES 2019.

Bump essentials is a highly comprehensive multivitamin. It contains 15 nutrients, including:
400 µg of methylated vitamin B9 Quatrefolic®
100 mg of choline bitartrate VitaCholine
20 µg of vitamin D3
Zinc bisglycinate, iodine, selenium, vitamin K2, etc.
In just 2 capsules.
It is the supplement suited to conception and pregnancy*.
We have chosen forms that studies show are well absorbed: zinc bisglycinate**, vitamin B9 5-MTHF***, vitamin D3****, etc.

*Folates contribute to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy. A low folate status in the mother increases the risk of neural tube defects in the developing foetus. The beneficial effect is obtained by a daily intake of 400 μg of folic acid, at least one month before conception and up to three months after conception.

****Vitamin D2 Is Much Less Effective than Vitamin D3 in Humans, 2004.

The formulation of Bump essentials already provides 400 µg of vitamin B9, but in a different form from folic acid: 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (Quatrefolic®). This is a patented methylated form, which is very well absorbed by the body*. Bump essentials alone provides the recommended dose of vitamin B9 during the conception/pregnancy period (400 µg)**. Therefore, you do not need to take additional folic acid.

*Comparative Absorption and Bioavailability of Various Chemical Forms of Zinc in Humans: A Narrative Review, 2024.
*Folates contribute to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy. A low folate status in the mother increases the risk of neural tube defects in the developing foetus. The beneficial effect is obtained by the daily consumption of 400 μg of folic acid, at least one month before conception and up to three months after conception.

Bump essentials and Baby Bump have broadly the same vitamin and mineral composition, with 15 nutrients each including choline. The difference is that Baby Bump also provides DHA, the omega-3 fatty acid that contributes to the healthy development of the foetus's brain and vision. Bump essentials was designed as an alternative for women who struggle to digest fish oil and/or who are vegan.

If your fertility supplement is not a multivitamin, then yes, Bump essentials is compatible. It is even particularly useful as it contains zinc, which supports fertility.
It can be taken alongside Cocooning+, Ovo+, Pink Balance, or an evening primrose oil supplement, for example.
If you are unsure, please do not hesitate to send us the formulation of your supplement so we can assess compatibility.

Bump essentials was not developed for the postpartum period, but it is compatible. We have the postpartum food supplement Post essentials which is suitable.
After giving birth, it may be worth taking an additional iron supplement if you experienced heavy bleeding*. Iron Mama is a supplement rich in iron.
Omega Mama will also provide you with DHA, which contributes to normal brain function.

*Guideline: Iron Supplementation in Postpartum Women. Geneva: World Health Organization; 2016.

Bump essentials is specially formulated for the conception and pregnancy periods. For the postpartum period, compatible with breastfeeding, we have the Post essentials multivitamin supplement. To be taken alongside the capsulesOmega Mama, to top up on DHA, which contributes to the normal development of the brain and vision of the breastfed baby.

Bump Essentials is an ultra-comprehensive prenatal supplement, with 15 vitamins and minerals.
The nutrient missing from Bump Essentials is DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid that contributes to the brain and vision development of the foetus.
Depending on your needs, you can also take Iron Mama where 1 capsule covers 100% of the recommended daily intake of iron.

It can also be taken with the supplement to help combat fatigue with magnesium, Mama-gnésium.
