The stages of the menstrual cycle

The menstrual cycle is not limited to periods alone. It encompasses all the hormonal changes that take place in your body before, during and after the release of an egg. Menstruation is the first stage of the cycle, followed by the pre-ovulatory phase. After your period, a boost of energy precedes the ovulatory phase. The final stage is the one that brings the most discomfort, including the well-known premenstrual syndrome — and for good reason: it is the premenstrual phase!


Symptoms of the menstrual cycle

Every woman's cycle is different, yet deeply connected to her daily life. During periods, some women experience more or less intense pain, while others go through profound sadness or heightened emotions. The pre-ovulatory phase is often associated with a sense of renewal and a boost in energy. Ovulation itself can bring a wide range of symptoms. It may cause pain, or conversely bring a wave of warmth and loving feelings. PMS (premenstrual syndrome) occurs after ovulation and before the period, and sometimes continues during menstruation. It is characterised by profound fatigue, heightened sensitivity, and the feeling of being overwhelmed by one's emotions.
