Apple fruit extract
Apple fruit extract: a gentle ally for strong hair after baby
Apple fruit extract is naturally rich in polyphenols. It has been studied for its role in keratin production, a key protein for hair, which may be beneficial during the transient hair loss that occurs after birth.
Used in tailored formulas, it can be incorporated into a hair care routine during pregnancy and breastfeeding, alongside a varied diet and regular monitoring.
It can be poured over noodles, rice or vegetables — perfect when you have your baby in your arms.
Origin and description
Apple fruit extract comes from the fruit of the apple tree, most often sourced from varieties selected for their natural richness in polyphenols. These plant compounds are present in the flesh and skin of the fruit.
The extracts used in food supplement are generally standardised, in order to guarantee a consistent polyphenol content, including certain procyanidins. This standardisation allows for a more consistent composition than fresh fruit alone.
In the context of the post-partum period, a time marked by significant hormonal changes, this extract is studied for its potential role in the hair structure, without acting on the hormonal causes of hair loss, which remains physiological and transient.
In its natural form, the apple can be enjoyed easily on a daily basis, in the form of fresh apple, unsweetened apple purée or baked apple. It naturally provides fibre, micronutrients and polyphenols, which are beneficial for overall health.
However, the levels of specific compounds vary depending on the variety, ripeness and preparation. This is why diet alone does not always provide a consistent intake of polyphenols targeted at hair health.
In supplement form
Apple fruit extract is offered in a food supplement hair loss in the form of capsules or tablets, often combined with biotin, a nutrient recognised for the maintenance of normal hair.
The quality criteria to check are:
- a clearly identified origin,
- a standardisation of polyphenols,
- a short ingredient list,
- the absence of unnecessary additives.
These supplements are incorporated into a post-partum hair care course, without replacing a varied diet or medical follow-up.
Why is apple fruit extract a key ally for your maternity journey?
1 - Post-partum hair loss It supports the temporary shedding phase after childbirth, by supporting the structure of the hair at the point when the hair cycle is rebalancing.
2 - Hair keratin Its polyphenols are studied for their role in the mechanisms linked to keratin production, which is essential to the strength of the hair fibre.
3 - Breastfeeding-compatible course Incorporated into suitable formulas, it can be used during breastfeeding, in line with the needs of this period.
4 - Simple routine It fits easily into a daily routine, with no special preparation required, which is appreciated when time is short with a newborn.
5 - Holistic hair approach It complements other key factors such as biotin, dietary protein and good hydration, as part of a holistic approach.

How does it work? (The science bit)
After ingestion, the polyphenols from apple fruit extract are absorbed at intestinal level. A portion is transformed by the microbiota, then circulates in the body in the form of active metabolites.
These compounds contribute to the oxidative balance of cells. In the available studies, certain apple polyphenols are associated with mechanisms involved in the keratin synthesis at the level of the hair follicle. Keratin is the main protein in hair, responsible for its strength and thickness.
In the post-partum period, hair loss is primarily linked to hormonal changes. Apple fruit extract does not act on these hormones, but may support the regrowth phase by helping to maintain the quality of the hair fibre produced. The effects observed depend on the regularity of intake, the formulation and the overall nutritional context.
