Naturopathy is particularly well suited to children because, as long as they have not received many allopathic treatments, their system responds very quickly. Their body has not yet become lazy. 

What is naturopathy?

It is a non-conventional, traditional form of medicine that draws on prevention and common sense. The idea is to let the body do its work rather than hinder it with treatments.


With naturopathy, we focus primarily on lifestyle: diet, physical activity, sleep, light… Unlike allopathy [conventional medicine], which intervenes on behalf of the body when it is no longer able to do so itself — which is sometimes essential, particularly for very young children and elderly people — naturopathy acts upstream, when everything is going well.
 

Unfortunately, people often come to us as a last resort, having tried everything else. By that point, we can only act on the symptoms rather than the underlying cause. We end up practising naturotherapy rather than naturopathy. We are not here to replace doctors.

Why is naturopathy particularly well suited to children?

This is a population that is often excluded from complementary medicine, particularly aromatherapy. Some essential oils are indeed not recommended for children, and as a precaution they are often all ruled out. That is a shame.

It is normal for a child to be ill, especially when they are young — they are in the process of building their immunity. 

Naturopathy is particularly well suited to children because, as long as they haven't received many allopathic treatments, their system responds very quickly. Their body hasn't yet become sluggish. 

The same protocol will also work better in a 3-year-old than in a 15-year-old. Moreover, it is easy to incorporate healthy practices into children's everyday lives. They do not yet have bad habits.

How to prevent seasonal illnesses in children through naturopathy?

It starts above all with diet. Prioritise raw foods to stock up on vitamins — in salads, juices or even a morning smoothie. It is better to reduce starchy foods and dairy products. These generate mucus or congestion that clogs the ENT system (runny nose, chesty cough…). This won't stop a runny nose altogether, but it will reduce the risk of further complications.

You can also start a preventive course (from 10 kg). Trace elements such as copper, gold and silver are, for example, easily accessible and ideal in cases of severe fatigue and ENT sensitivity. It is also possible to take blackcurrant, echinacea or cypress in syrup form. Or ravintsara essential oil, at one drop per day (on the skin) for three weeks.

But parents also need reassurance: it is normal for children to fall ill, especially the youngest ones who are still building their immune system.
